Patch (in progress)
@cptpatch.bsky.social
Network engineer, astronomy/space enthusiast, policy wonk, and gamer. Currently patching my body's firmware.
The way you broke this up into separate posts made it sound like a private equity buyout for a second. I can't imagine this wasn't done for comedic timing purposes and I love you for that.

And your sub count appears to be fine. It's almost like the venn diagram of people invested in those disingenuous arguments and your core audience (those who get satisfaction from understanding the complexity of mundane systems around them) is just two separate circles.

When I was talking to local friends about moving to the PNW (as a prerequisite for transitioning and coming out as trans without ruining my life) they took me to downtown Olympia for an afternoon and it kinda convinced me that things would work out. Gayest place I've ever been and great food, 10/10.

I'm kinda stoked that the group using its limited minority powers to prevent direct harm to me is also somewhat closer to my economic and social beliefs than the one that wants to see me harmed. But if MAGA went full economic progressive tomorrow I'd still be terrified of the movement.

I kind of hate "its not left vs right it's up vs down" sentiments nowadays because it ignores that things like declaring me to be inherently pornographic, imprisoning me in a men's prison for appearing in front of kids, and removing rape protections are pushed by just one of those groups.

Actually I believe the premise is that he came in love, or at least lust.

How did you not land on "Came in peace for all mankind" for the bonus panel?

Well, you can't put the genie back in the bottle. Make it happen Viv!

I'm now imagining this exchange as a conversation between Wax and Wayne in Mistborn.

If I wanted to read about the minutiae of fantasy world coinage I'd read Spice and Wolf... which is why I read Spice and Wolf. More fantasy economics please.

But if I need something properly internal to soothe my mind while I fall asleep I just meditate. Just kinda zone out while focusing on my breathing and my heartbeat and let my mind's eye do what it wants without dwelling. It has a lower success rate than YouTube background noise >_>

I tend to try to find something to listen to that catches my interest just enough that I don't form a train of thought, but doesn't catch it well enough to keep me awake. Lately it's been videos I've already seen of shipwreck and plane crash investigation deep dives on YouTube.

There is a bird where I live that makes the exact same noise as an APC UPS battery beep. If I'm sleeping with my window open it will wake me up in the morning and it will take me a few seconds to realize that I'm not at work in a network closet or something.

So that never happens to me, my "100%" happens one step after that, when I'm fully recovered AND I take a hot shower. I go into the shower still feeling the dregs of sick, and I get out of the shower feeling healthy.

I'm pretty sure I ran out of ability to parody the internet manosphere when I saw people worrying about how to stay hydrated at the gym when they thought drinking water looked gay. I don't know, I'm kind of hoping I 'bit the onion' on this one and that this isn't a way real humans think.

You're like #5 on my list of "this cartoonist writes characters that make me feel seen" that has ended up being trans. I'm starting to think that the entire enterprise of webcomics might just be a front for the sinister agenda™.

This idea works with most sexual anatomy. The word labia sounds like it should be a brass instrument. Frenulum? Clearly the 7th class of simple machine. Glans? A glan sounds like a type of poem. Ovary sounds like a type of fancy room. "Shall we take our guest in the conservatory or the ovary?"

This sentiment was very important to me transitioning. The scary stuff was all people being garbage, the potential gain was rooted in reading dozens of medical papers and a personal journey that made me feel properly happy without a manic episode or intoxicant for the first time in my adult life.

Japanese has a whole category of onomatopoeic adverbs/adjectives that mean what they sound like. Things like mofumofu (soft), betabeta (sticky/tacky), or karikari (crisp). I know you probably wanted English, but I just think it's too fun not to mention.

Are those sports teams in the room with us right now? Are they trying to say something?

This is exactly the kind of mundane moral victory that needs the biggest congratulations. Great news!

What's really cool is that the stability of "grid inertia" is literally the inertia of huge spinny pieces of metal and loads are like brakes. Inverters are not spinny and add no inertia, so places with a lot of renewables are using excess power to spin up giant flywheels to add the inertia back in.

Sounds like having you for a dad is giving him the ability to intuitively do Fermi estimates in his head. I'm trying to teach this to a kid by saying "I don't know" and doing it in front of him when he asks a curiosity question like "how often is somebody in the world cursing?" (A: probably always)

I think Worcestershire sauce counts, since you make it by fermenting anchovies, onions, and garlic for many months.

Gorsuch and Roberts are expected, but Barret is interesting. I feel like the Supreme Court should have less patience for such farfetched arguments of standing, just for their personal sanity...
