Zohran's victory doesn't m,aterially affect me as someone living in London. But damn if it doesn't make me feel a sense of hope that I've been lacking for so so long. What a special man and what a special campaign.

Heart saga update. Had an angiogram. Can say that I’ll never forget the feeling of a wire going through my arteries up to my heart. Not fun. But extremely good diagnosis. Squeaky clean blood vessels. Damage is only muscular. And that’s fixable.

That hospital drip. (Not that one, they unhooked me so I could roam a bit)

Am hospital. Kidneys bad, blood too strong. They got me sleeping in a hallway.

Loving Starmer’s NHS rn. Also IVs aren’t as fun as they looked.

Here is my dog who, whilst I was distracted, decided to make himself very comfortable.

Went out today wearing something that WASN'T covered in birds or flowers for once. (I am happier about how I looked than my face suggests)

So that's a no on the minerals "deal" then?

You're right, I should put some respect on the Doohickey's name.

Everything about howe the world works right now is insufferable and infuriating

Despite the efforts of the state to make him look like a violent & dangerous psychopath, Luigi Mangione is bearing it all with dignity. It's 100% backfiring.

BTW. it turns out... ICE vans really do just do that..

5. Samantha Carter - Stargate SG-1. I'm an Atlantis guy, but Carter is extraordinary. She's like the best kind of teacher, you wouldn't be afraid to fuck up around her. She won't clean your mistakes up for you, instead helping you figure out where you went wrong and give you the tools to fix it.

4. Ellen Ripley - Aliens series. To original mama bear. But the prime example of "if you just listened to the woman, shit wouldn't have gone that way." Ripley was cool under pressure, but wasn't afraid to call a moron out to their face. Everyone needs a Ripley in their corner.

3. Jessica Atreides - Dune. Now hear me out. I know film watchers often have a lot of smoke for Jessica. But Book Jessica is powerful in her own right and pragmatic. She's a rock when she needs to be and the first to call people on their shit. The universe turned on her decisions multiple times.

2. Jadzia Dax - Star Trek Deep Space 9. Jadzia is not only the friend any introvert needs, who understands when and where to push, but she's a woman with lifetimes of experiences to share.

Sod it, another🧵.

Badass women from sci-fi I wanted to lead me into battle / be my mum.

1. Susan Ivanova - Babylon 5. No-one scares the rookies like Ivanova. You did not want to end up on the other end of her weapons array either. Ivanova would kick my arse into being a better person FAST.

5. Lastly, a bit of a wildcard. Rodger Young class Corvette transport from Starship Troopers. It's a practical, vehicle that has a delightful mass produced feel to it. We saw them take an absolute battering over Klentathu but they still brought their crew and passengers home. Tough bastards
February 16, 2025 at 9:13 PM
4. SA-43 Hammerhead from Space: Above and Beyond. When I first saw this in 1995 it was SO different. Practical, down to Earth but most of all, plausible. The Hammerhead was the first thing from any sci-fi series I looked at as "possible"

3. EAS Omega Class Destroyer from Babylon 5. Oh you thought i was gonna throw a Whitestar up here? Not when this exists. It has the beat up beauty of a prizefighter. It's function over form. Shit is practically Soviet in it's aesthetic. They're glorious.
