Advance tickets are usually for a specific service at a specific time so therefore would be operator specific.

It's unclear but sounds to me like mostly it's singles getting cheaper but some return fares will rise a bit (by up to 20p)
November 6, 2025 at 11:38 AM
Details here: news.tfgm.com/press-releas...

Basically from 7 December between GM stations:
- only singles available (at around half the price of a current return fare)
- tickets valid on all operators
New fares will be introduced in Greater Manchester to make train travel simpler

Hope that makes sense. I'm anti-brexit and pro-bikes on trains, but I do think this legislation is badly thought out and an example of something where the EU shouldn't be legislating
June 8, 2025 at 11:23 AM
My point is that the EU legislation is too broad a brush for different approaches in the different countries. Here the Netherlands is probably the best example of achieving the policy goals (more bike + public transport use) but the legislation will contradict that country's approach.
June 8, 2025 at 11:22 AM
Do you really think this would work in the Netherlands?
June 7, 2025 at 1:05 PM
Sorry but this is bad!! Netherlands is a wonderful cycling country but for good reason they don't allow many bikes on trains -- they would be quickly overwhelmed. Instead provide great cycle parking and cycle hire at stations. Countries should be free to make that choice.

Thanks for the shout out lol

How will tap in(/out?) work on buses? Will just be one tap in point per bus, this slows down boarding.
February 24, 2025 at 1:28 PM
Yeah I agree that these two things lead to a lot of waste in local govt spending!
February 14, 2025 at 11:11 AM
I feel like unnecessary tunnels count as waste though? You see this with other infrastructure projects too, lots of money wasted on things which aren't necessary for the infrastructure itself.
February 14, 2025 at 11:10 AM
Okay but I think that just emphasises my point? Not only is HS2 very expensive to build, so are motorway junctions! I struggle to buy that there isn't some significant waste given other places do seem to build things more cheaply (from what I've seen!)
February 13, 2025 at 6:20 PM
How do you square this with the fact that infrastructure projects are way more expensive here than equivalent countries? Not saying you're wrong but are we getting more for our money somehow?
February 13, 2025 at 2:35 PM
Yes you are! It counts as an hour delay so will get full value of your ticket refunded (or half your return ticket)

Idk I just think climate change is pretty urgent and we should get on with building this stuff even if it's not perfect.

The council was wrong to do that but they are also wrong refuse a landowner permission to put panels on their own agricultural land if thats what they want to do. We need clean energy infrastructure full stop. On homes, car parks and on some agricultural land.
January 22, 2025 at 4:50 PM
Tell your party to stop opposing clean energy infrastructure in your constituencies!!
January 22, 2025 at 1:09 PM
It would have been a good idea about 10 years ago but the proposed station footprint covers a bunch of large new build blocks of flats.

We're so back

I don't know, I get you and would like what you describe for this site but also the cat park is pretty horrible and not a good use of space here.
December 26, 2024 at 1:21 PM
This car park is due to be closed and land sold for development
