Just had lunch with a physician friend who confidently told me they weren’t worried about COVID because “it’s just a virus just like any other”. Wondering if anyone has seen any reputable research that indicates that COVID is no more dangerous than other common viruses.

I just did the numbers and this assumption looks to be completely right.

The preliminary sequence from the H5N1 human case in British Columbia has been posted and it is not good news. The virus potentially has a quasispecies at HA residue 226 (H3 numbering). This is bad news because we know that mutations at residue 226 can increase binding to human receptors. 1/

We meet the criteria for “worst-case scenario” and actually exceed it yet the PH response remains zero. Please amplify this.
