I do a lot of things. Woodworking, home remodeling/construction, programming, fishing, clay sculpting, 3D sculpting/modeling and more.
From a backend standpoint, the amount of database storage and page load overhead just from this tiny of a change means a lot to the availability of the site as a whole. It may not seem like it to the end-users, but to remove an entire field (even a boolean) from a database saves the site thousands.

As silly as it may sound, printers contain really useful electronics. Specifically rotary encoders and a number of optical sensors. These elements are quite easy for budding electronics hobbyists to make use of. Userland printer tech hasn't been updated in decades.
