I do avoid some artist as a way to express my non-support of them.

But overall, I think it's okay to like an individual work. Like you said, it respresents a part of the author, and humans are complex. Good people have some bad parts, and bad can have good.

I personally always focus on the art rather than the artist. Whether it's books, music, movies. As such, I have lot's of personal experiences where I like only 1 song or 1 book from the author.
