Offering up your hard earned Eyes to the Mountain is a great way of keeping your trek as normal as possible, what could go wrong? #screenshotsaturday #indiegame #gamedev

hi #PitchYaRogue 👋 I'm making Eldritch Climb: A Cursed Ascent, a roguelike climbing game where the more Eyes 👁️ you get the harder and spookier it gets!
September 24, 2025 at 7:48 PM
Solving these puzzles will transport you to Memories, narrative interludes where you will learn more about our character and what led him to be trapped in this Mountain. These Memories also change depending on the amount of Eyes you have!
September 24, 2025 at 5:10 PM
Levels might start to display elements that don't quite fit there. These might be clues to hidden puzzles that you can solve on your way through the Mountain, as well as a look into our character's life outside this nightmare.
September 24, 2025 at 5:10 PM
Offering these Eyes to the statue at the base of the Mountain is a great way to keep them low, but as you give up these Eyes you also give away some of your memories and who you are. So the Mountain will change as a result.
September 24, 2025 at 5:10 PM
In a previous thread we talked about how Eyes are both a currency and the way our character starts seeing the world for what it really is. So keeping a low amount of Eyes can keep the game easier and somewhat less weird.

My game has almost no meta-progression. Instead of getting stronger or unlocking upgrades, you uncover the story of how you got here in the first place and how to break out of the loop. Here's how we're building the story. 🧵 #indiegame #gamedev #roguelike

I've been working on a seamless transition when loading to some special scenes. Still not seamless really but it's getting there. #gamedev #madewithunity #indiegame

We are using Yarn Spinner for our dialogue system and it's been really cool to implement, the writing process specially has been really easy to iterate. #gamedev #indiegame #madewithunity

Here's a cool combo of active items, the balloon helps you move upwards while the axe allows you to hit to your right.

Finally playing MGS3 (Master Collection) after the buzz surrounding Delta made me want to check it out, I know I'm late to the party but wow, it really is a great game. I love how goofy it can be.

You can make some pretty wild combos when you get the hang of it. Become a menace with two weapons or maybe equip two movement items to make you ascent as fast as possible!
September 10, 2025 at 4:46 PM
Which hand you equip active items is more important than you might think, the AXE for example can only attack on the side it is equipped, making combat easier or harder to face depending on where it's coming from.
September 10, 2025 at 4:46 PM
Some items are passive and are equipped permanently and without limits, but your two hands hold ACTIVE items, which are super powerful and can be used repeatedly to attack enemies or open up new movement options.
September 10, 2025 at 4:45 PM
Items can be found in the mountain by looting the corpses of previous expeditioners, you can also buy one before starting your run so that you can stack the odds in your favor. Maybe you'll have better luck than those who perished on the climb.
September 10, 2025 at 4:45 PM
Our character has TWO hands he uses to climb, but he can also equip items in either of them. The decision of what to equip and in which hand is more important than you might think! Here's a thread about it. 👁️ 🧵

I've been using the Timeline in Unity to animate a tutorial that recreates the movement of the player and it has been a struggle because of the changing pivots to rotate it 😩 but I think it looks good enough now.

Don't trust your eyes, things never stay the same...

Gain Eyes to uncover greater horrors and challenges!

September 6, 2025 at 3:45 PM
Why would you this?
Because the greatest challenges and the biggest secrets are ONLY for those who dare to look. Our character's past, the deepest lore and the wildest secrets are reserved for those who refuse to look away.

But if you HOARD them... the game changes.
- Enemies get new behaviours and visuals
- Level generation gets more hostile
- Reality begins to shatter

You are literally trading your sanity for a challenge
September 2, 2025 at 4:06 PM
You can SPEND Eyes at the base of the mountain to make your runs easier.
- Get starting items
- Unlock permanent changes to the levels
- Keep the world stable and familiar

It's the safe choice. The sane choice.
September 2, 2025 at 4:06 PM
Eyes are some of the few persistent elements in our roguelike.
You get them by acquiring enough Eye Fluid from:
- Floating particles
- Defeating enemies
- Looting corpses

Generally interacting with anything creepy
September 2, 2025 at 4:06 PM
Getting currency in our game can have dire consequences.

Introducing EYES: A reality-bending substance that makes the game creepier and harder the more you collect.

Here's a thread about the cost of knowledge... 👁️🧵
