lemley!! 😭 i’m so sorry for your loss - we had to put down one of our cats last year and he looked a lot like poptart. she brought me a lot of joy after he passed (and also before he did obviously)

i hope you can take the time to heal and process! you clearly loved her so much ♥️

have huge implications in the reader’s understanding and our understandings of other people, how mystery is itself a tool to try to understand the world and the people around us, even if we know we can’t fully comprehend it anyway

the genre itself, that uses what we know about the world to try to make sense of what we do and why.
this is also why it feels pretty obvious that umineko was influenced by him in someway - the destruction and reconstruction of identity though mystery and narrative, how those small changes in story

doubt and investigation (and imo also intensely judging the character of yourself and others) all of which. lmao are clearly important in detective fiction

but its interesting that even though i imagine takemoto isnt religious his homage to a deeply religious writer is one that tries to dissect

it’s what makes his stories so interesting (and also i’m guessing this is what gets him that 四大奇書 spot)

but the chesterton thing was also interesting to me - i mentioned to my sister that the string of catholic mystery writers was kinda funny but she pointed out that catholicism is all about
