Overheads are fixed at some point and higher prices on imported goods are going to erode margins on those goods. So the margins on non-tariff goods will have to increase to cover overheads. Wholesale prices in some goods that lost foreign markets will crash like produce and meat but retail will not.

We have to stop trying to play their game of stupid name calling because they will win that war every time. He is correct. And the interviewer (if they were even remotely good at their job) should have asked “in your opinion are these tariffs on Canada and Mexico about national security?”

He is absolutely correct. If the tariffs were meant for national security the economic pain is worth it. But this is not about national security. This is about racism and personal retribution from a tyrant in the case on Canada and Mexico. Maybe it’s about national security for China…
