It's a work that REALLY doesn't make sense outside of its time.

Yeah if you did that there would be no point in the thigh shells being there at all. You need a brace to redirect the force of the stilts, and also an elastic tensioner of some sort, whether a winch or a spring, to act as the foot's Achilles tendon.

Without them, what would be acting as the tensioner between the thigh shells & the feet?
