COSMOPOET is MSCA PF research project by Divna Manolova @dulila.bsky.social. It is funded by the European Union and hosted by Ghent University. COSMOPOET aims to rethink the relationship between poetry and astronomy in the space of late Byzantine schools.
Too tired to make any meaningful posts right now, just wanted to say a huge Thank you! to everyone involved!! I am so grateful, so impressed by everyone's ideas, kindness and support and so sorry it all went so quickly! Good night to all cosmopoets!!

Day 2: almost set up
October 31, 2025 at 8:27 AM
Not many photos from today, except for the inspiring Wim Verbaal and the astonishing Liber Floridus. Main take away: we really need to rethink what "didactic" means in different contexts, but also when "numbers" encode meter & poems act as instances of creation of worlds - fictional but also real.

More walking, more "cosmic" images of Ghent 👩🏻‍🚀🎈🎈

My starry walks around Ghent continue. 💫💫This time with the discovery of this celestial globe (no stars, just celestial circles but still) - part of the sculptural composition of the rococo pulpit in St Bavo's cathedral designed by Laurent Delvaux. 🤩🌐✨🌌

🧵🧵The first year of COSMOPOET is now over, and while another year remains, it is already clear that cosmopoetics and the role of poetry and verse in the astral sciences are a large iceberg and we are only seeing its tip for now.

It is a Saturday and what better activity than building planicelia together with @sgessner.bsky.social and Florence Somer in preparation for Celestial Scripts on Monday!

#scientiae2025 ends with a rare visit to the Istanbul university observatory. A telescope that takes a record of the solar spots each they for more than 20000 consecutive days - an impressive tradition and continuity 🤩

Second paper for this morning: Gaye Danisan's wonderful project on Ottoman paper instruments #scientiae2025

How wonderful to start the day with Samuel Gessner's call to take and to study the instruments preserved in libraries seriously 🤩 #scientiae2025

And here are some mementos from a day of theoretical codicology, Byzantine studies and history of education

Neophytos the Recluse, the Monk Gabriel, Máximos Planudes: manuscripts, authors and Byzantinists and the beautiful Edinburgh! Huge thanks to the organisers and to both libraries: @natlibscot.bsky.social and University of Edinburgh's Main Library!

Speaking about the palaeography and codicology + diagrams!! for the first time! I realise I can do this and well. Many thanks to the Crash Course in Greek Palaeography organisers for adding me to the team and to KBR for the opportunity to spend a day in the company of the manuscripts I love so much!

🧵The first workshop on the Spatio-Temporal Profiles of Multi graphic Written Artefacts is now behind us. Lots to think about before the Paris meeting in 2025: about a wide range of temporalities such as astronomical and apocalyptic time, about the importance of patterning, sequencing, and indexing..

🧵I have been thinking about quadrivial handbooks in Byzantium for a while and during the past year I have been making shy baby steps towards a study of George Pachymeres' Quadrivium by giving seminar papers on his reading practices.

This week Cosmopoet is visiting the Ambrosiana 😍
February 10, 2025 at 2:57 PM
Poster printed & presented, now in the office. It was a little scary; at first it felt like I'm selling something. Then I was blown away by the questions people asked and how genuinely curious they were. I regret I got to visit only a few other posters. Thank you, Giulia, for being there! #msca

🧵With COSMOPOET, I am trying many new things (first logo, Bsky...) and here is the next one. On 27 November COSMOPOET will participate in the LW Research Day "From Source to Understanding" (www.lwresearchday.ugent.be) with the very first academic poster I ever made.

In the next (carefully curated) post, I want to tell you about Cosmopoet's logo and its inspiration, but for tonight a selfie attempt with a tee I ordered for the UGent LW Research Day. I think it came out well, the t-shirt, not the selfie 🤔🫠

Some may think that using #bsky to share what Cosmopoet is about is unconventional and possibly not the most effective. I say it is an alternative, not naive, and hopefully independent way of sharing beyond academia where Cosmopoet was born. So Hello World 👋🏻👋🏻 , and thank you for welcoming us!
