It's been three weeks since I started my fieldwork in Dakar for the project Mobilise (Grenoble Alpes University). I'll be in Senegal for three months researching the future aspirations of local youth.

Wrapping up the 4 week unit block Globalisation et Société for second year undergraduate sociology students at Grenoble University with a lecture on mobilities and auto-mobilities and a workshop on radically redesigning a post-car Grenoble. John Urry's work on the system of automobility, ages well.

I tried very hard to become famous in Europe, without much success though. Everything will change now that my work has finally been published by an influential Chinese news outlet, The Paper, which has an average of 8,6 M daily readers.

Subtle Orientalism. Leïla Slimani's "Le pays des autres" (2020) and the more recent "Houris" by Kamel Daoud (Prix Goncourt 2024), set in post-colonial (or thereabouts) Morocco and Algeria respectively, are undoubtedly good books.

I had the second to last lecture, on postcolonialism, for my undergraduate unit "Migrations et Société" at Université Grenoble Alpes. What a joy this was, I didn't realise I miss teaching (even in French!) so much!
