One of the first comics I knew I had to grab this year, and it's such a treat, glad I nabbed it before the month was over
"despite, despite, despite: i’ll be upfront this one made me cry. a simple story, following the life of two struggling artists who have a good day together despite none of their most pressing issues having any clear solutions. there’s a rich, warm atmosphere, especially present in the artist’ care to illustrate individual grocery isles and a diverse array of people from all walks of life in the city. it makes its message of supporting your loved ones being supported by your community obvious thru little touches i really appreciated." I have to add I really loved Chasing Bloody Mary, the comic Darcy made last year! Don't know if I ever said that anywhere online!
"string figures: a bite sized spooky treat perfect for right before halloween. I like that the kids are not very “well behaved”, and its not even like thats a flaw they totally learn to overcome. this isnt a moral fable, its just a moment of a shared paranormal threat that has to force them to work together for a moment in time. i really like the innate understanding of the way the magic strings work the kids seem to have about parts of the situation, which is a mystery to both the reader and even the kids themselves." "on love and lepidoptery: a short and sweet story, L&L uses soft linework & a gentle hand on its limited color palette to bring out the tender affection the two leads have for each other. their chemistry is immediate and straightforward and its just nice to spend time with them. additionally, its obvious even before reaching the author’s note at the end that the scenery was based on real life hikes, its drawn with specificity and love." Cutting things off again here for the night w/one of my favorite aspects of Markov: a couple of times for one reason or another the gang had to record episodes w/out someone else there. the solutions they came up with were really fun episodes like "here's a flashback for how everyone met!" #dicefunk
