I’d get 1in cushion craft foam for the base of the puppet, there’s a lot of tutorials on how to carve it on YT as well! (Including tips for making the :3 face)
For the stitches, I’d recommend using a whipstitch since it’s easy, pretty strong, and can be less time consuming
