Shoe worn at New Orleans’ historic Dew Drop Inn by the daughter of “Bumps” Blackwell, the producer/arranger for the early hits of Little Richard. She’s a fellow guest at this hotel and event venue in New Orleans this weekend.

A little slice of important Americana: Shots from New Orleans’s Dew Drop Inn. All rooms are named after people associated with the establishment (restored in the early 2020s), including Little Richard and Ray Charles. Seen here is the James Booker room.

After leaving Blue Monday goings-on at Hal & Mal’s in Jackson MS (free Uber night), I went for a nightcap to its new-ish Walk-In, a cocktail bar with a fantastic short-order menu. Pretty darned good bao (and I had nearly life-altering gua bao at a night market stall in Taipei two summers ago).

Bed & breakfast place snapshot, taken in Kosciusko MS, a small town about an hour north of Jackson, the state capitol. I was there for the town high school’s 1985 high school reunion.

Lemon Swiss Chard Pasta. This was supposed to take about 25 minutes. Think: More like an hour, excluding the time it took to cook the pasta and get all the ingredients together. But it looks pretty!

A few more shots from London, all but maybe one (the window with the old ship decor) from the Westminster area. Taken May 6, 2025. Includes Westminster Abbey’s exterior, the Parliament HQ, Big Ben, and Buckingham Palace. Checked the flag, and Chuck was around the day.

Chinatown, London. May 6,2025. I ended up here before (and after) a visit to the Prince Charles Cinema, a one-of-a-kind arthouse theater in the adjacent Leicester Square area.

A few shots from Bloomsbury, London, taken on May 5, 2025, including one of an ideal-type sort of British pub, a Gandhi statue at Tavistock Park, and selections from the British Museum. Favorites from that museum of way too much stuff from all over, some of it collected from plunder.

A few more from Bruges, Belgium, including some less crowded parts. After a few blocks, the throngs melt away. The hotel with a 17th Century date on it was one-upped by a neighboring place with a 13th Century date, btw.

Bruges, Belgium on May 7, 2025. Loved getting the pics. But the crowds. If there’s ever a next time, I’ll go in the evening and stay overnight. That little room stuck high up between two larger buildings kills me, still.

The Holy Quadrumvirate of Belgian foodstuffs: Frites, waffles, beer, and chocolate. First two from Bruges, next two from Brussels.

Royal Museums of Fine Arts in Brussels, Belgium. I did not search for and write down the name of this building, largely because I came across this when exiting the museum’s store, which more of a bookstore than most museum gift shops. I’d visited the complex’s Magritte Museum. Taken May 8, 2025.

Garden of the Kunstberg in Brussels, Belgium (messed up location earlier, happens—fixed). A few more photos from Brussels and Bruges to come. I enjoyed my time here, and wouldn’t mind returning! Noted that sleeper trains to Berlin & Prague start here. So it’s possible!

Shots from two small parks in Brussels, Belgium, located just a block or two from each other, including: Parc d'Egmont and Square du Petit Sablon.

One more set from Paris before moving backwards through Belgium and London. Here are a few from the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. One thing to note on this, MS World Awareness Day: This was my first big trip anywhere since being diagnosed with MS in December. I use a cane now. Got around anyway!

A few shots from Montmartre Cemetery, Paris. Note the cobwebs in one tomb. I saw cobwebs in flowers there, which set a certain mood. (I’ve used a couple for Photoshop overlays.)

Scenes from around Place Prosper-Goubaux in Paris’s Europe neighborhood. I took these after a. Eiffel Tower photo jaunt. The next afternoon, a Sunday, I decided to spend around 2 1/2 hours at one of the cafes around there, one I’d only managed to get a blurry shot of the night before.

The Victoria & Albert Museum, London. May 15, 2025, including shots of its impossibly grand cafe, a window on one of the upper floors (staircase and rotunda areas looked grand too, but I have a leg brace for a minor disability these days, so … nope) and 20th Century design exhibit.
