They'd look ok if Bluesky didn't upscale them automatically.

They're upscaled using waifu2x before being posted since most platforms have a minimum image size. The original images are 80x80 so they'd look worse without waifu2x. I tried to compromise by placing the 80x80 item in one of the corners.

Yeah, it's surprisingly more annoying than dealing with videos on different platforms.

Also, since these were made in the early 2000s for Neopets, I'm betting there exist vector graphic versions of each item. Sadly, we only have access to 80x80 GIFs.

I agree that it doesn't look great in some cases, but it's better than nothing. I tried to compromise by adding the 80x80 image to one of the corners.

I guess one option would be to make a large enough white image and then paste the original at its center. Not sure how good that would look though.

It's me. The bot uses waifu2x to upscale the item for Twitter, Mastodon, and Bluesky since these platforms automatically rescale images to a minimum size. So if I kept the original 80x80 item, it would look worse than if I upscaled them myself. Tumblr doesn't do this so I can keep the original item.

waifu2x (locally)

Not super happy with it, but the original images are 80x80 and Bluesky always upscales them to 640x640. I started adding the original image to one of the corners as a compromise.

In the Tumblr version, I always show the original, but that's not possible in the other platforms.
