I hail from the frigid Northlands.

Mainly post about running, strength training, being outdoors, and I share pictures of food unapologetically.

Next up - Spartan Trifecta?

I love tacos and coffee equally.
My dad has been to Scotland, and he mailed me a box of tartans. I especially love the snood and the special message on it. I will be warm and cosy on my travels!

You know it's going to be a weird day on the internet when downdetector is down.

We're getting back on track with healthy eating over here. Here's what I made: walnut-covered pork tenderloins, chestnut mushrooms, sweet potatoes, and spinach with a homemade spicy balsamic sauce.

Leftover lunch packed. I must resist when my coworkers go for lunch tacos.

Weird stuff I inherited when my parents split up and sold the house: a set of Canadian Olympic coins from 1976.

I'm so bummed I wasn't alive then to experience the penny-farthing race. (I can't find any evidence that actually happened, but I choose to believe)

One of the last things we spoke of was our travels to the Baltics. I was in Riga for Lāčplēsis Diena years ago. Placing my candle with the others was an honour. I wanted to light one outside for my friend but the weather is awful. Here it is inside.

I'm at a point where I can smile when I remember.

Holy shit it's actually called a booby cactus! I have to go back to the greenhouse!
November 16, 2025 at 12:15 AM
My friend and I both stopped and stared at these cacti and she turned to me and said 'Do you think those look like..?'

'Yup!'

I know it's too early, but I went to a cool Christmas market today in a greenhouse. My family is lucky it was cold and I had to park far away because I would have brought home even more plants. I did get hot chocolate bombs, which I'm enjoying now as it rains ice outside.

I'm the Queen of Stupid Injuries. A couple of weeks ago I decided to take the annuals out of the garden with my bare hands, got a deep splinter of course, and have been growling about it. My husband got fed up and dug it out this morning. IT SUCKED but I can go rock climbing again! Yeah!

Today is the one year anniversary of the last time I meaningfully spoke with my best bud. I keep rereading our last messages. I didn't even properly say goodbye, just 'Talk to you soon!' Later on he sent me a poem he wrote and I told him it was cool, but never asked what it meant. I wish I had.

Oh no the American Health Care system knows where I live!

For the record I did pay this off last week, so I no longer have medical debt in the US. I'm still not sure why my insurance company is being so obstinate about not paying it. That's right, dealing with the insurance co sucks in Canada, too.

I took the beast for a run today. He made it about 3.5km before he had enough of it, but we still walked another 2.5 after that where he got to sniff.

We saw a hawk(?) and the hawk saw us. It was giant. Fortunately my dog isn't snack-sized.

We got so few trick or treaters this year! Were my dolls to scary? No, I'm sure it was the bad weather.

I finished painting my first antler this morning. It's not perfect for sure, but I'm happy with how it looks overall, especially the dry brushing. I'll keep working on the blending.

One lesson learned - less coffee before doing stuff that requires a steady hand.

I put a coat of primer on the antlers, and will finish painting them tomorrow. I also wrecked a bunch of dolls dresses which was fun, but also gave me an unanticipated sense of sadness for destroying these symbols of childhood innocence.

FrightFest at Saunder's Farm near #Ottawa. This was the first year my kids were old enough to go (it's scary!) and we had a blast.

Husband: What are you printing?

Me: Antlers for my baby.

Husband: That's normal.

Let the Halloween decorating begin! Me and my daughter, the mini Tim Burton, are expanding our creepy playground so we needed more dolls. Leaving Value Village with these in my arms was oddly empowering - I was the least likely person in Ottawa to be jumped in a parking lot that night.

I still had almost all my favourite toys from childhood, except my old Battle Cat, who was lost some years ago. Thanks to my good friends at East Coast Toys and Games, I've got him again!

I have some good candidates from the 80s/90s toybox for my 3D scanner and printer now.

I caught a Red Hot Chilli Peppers cover band called Funky Monks yesterday at Overflow Brewery here in #Ottawa. They were FANTASTIC. I don't get out to see bands anywhere near as much as I should.

Picture is from the opening act Hedonic who were also excellent.

When I was in Washington DC there was a city-wide bike ride. I joined in with my shitty tourist e-bike. I love that they gave me a waterbottle for my efforts.

(I was not blind to the troubles facing the city. For this moment though, I'd like to highlight the good.)

I logged my strength and conditioning class today using Garmin, as a HIIT class. I did many exercises including bench press, medball slams, sled pushes. The watch registered the class as 213 bicep curls. 💪

I learned about this while I was in Washington! This was up in the window at the Canadian embassy. F-35s and hamburgers! 🤜🤛

I didn't hit my 5k goal today. I felt wiped out almost right from the start, had to walk a few times, and surpassed my 35 min goal by just a bit. I'm still glad I tried but maybe I should take it easy till my lungs are more cleared up. Uuuuggh I want to be healthy.
