I'm kinda the same, I'm just as old as RE2 and I went back to play the classics years ago. RE2 original is my favourite, after that I would probably say RE4 Remake and then Code Veronica

Resident Evil 6. Its not admired much in the community but I see it as just pure fun and a bit of a laugh. Also it does have a fair amount of content.

It was such a classic, they should really bring it back. Such an obvious way for them to create a popular multiplayer game after their other attempts
