Off to spend the day taking photos around town to find new inspiration and to take new location shots for my prints and postcards. How sweet summer is.

So close to done! This painting from Yokohama's Chinatown has been slogging on for a few months but is now down to the bottom left corner and then it's good to go. It's been a pretty smooth ride through this one, but some of the reflections on the left are intense!

Pleased to announce that I've won 2nd place at the Federation of Canadian Artist's 2025 Calendar Competition and Exhibition for my painting "Lean On Me." You can view the complete exhibition online here from June 1-30: federationgallery.com/exhibit/2025....

Sometimes 2nd best isn't so bad is it? 🙃

Back from a week-long road trip to Nova Scotia and it's time to really buckle down.

First off, I entered a couple of paintings into the Federation of Canadian Artist's annual Calendar Competition and Exhibition. This show is online only from June 1-30 and can be viewed on the artists.ca site.

Okay, long weekend ahead and time to finish this painting of the Chinatown in Yokohama, Japan. Progress has been steady, and nailing down the final reflections in the windows should just about get me across the finish line. Stay tuned for the final piece!

Excited to share that I'll be returning to for my 6th year to the AGGV's Moss St. Paint-In, happening this year on Saturday, July 19. The Paint-In is Vancouver Island's premier arts festival and a great chance to see the work and watch the magic of the event's 160+ artists.

Sometimes when working on larger paintings I need to go back and check previous posts just to feel like I'm making progress. It goes slow sometimes but it always gets they're in the end 🥴

Welp, right into painting the window reflections now for this new acrylic painting of a scene from the Chinatown in Yokohama, Japan. Honestly the complexity of this section leaves me without a clue as to how to do it beyond just breaking it down to one panel at a time and having plenty of patience.

Getting into the mirrored portions of a new acrylic painting and things are getting fun fast. Just love the visual distortions.

Progress to date on this 30x40 inch acrylic painting of a street scene from Yokohama Japan. The left side will be filled with mirrored images, reflections in the windows, and striking green highlights to entwine some abstraction with the realism.

Detail of a new painting that I think is finally finished. After staring at it on my wall for a few months I touched up a few areas last night including adding shadows to the yellow door. The store was located at Victoria's Oak Bay Junction but unfortunately closed sometime in 2023.

Hello Bluesky! Here's the first shot of a new painting, an urban landscape based on a photo from last year's trip to Japan.
