Geography PhD candidate at UD researching "critical minerals" (including military uses), climate change, industrial disasters, and toxic histories and presents. Philly's Oscar the Grouch of industrial pollution.
Now the Philly Medical Examiner's Office is asking for volunteers to fill in for striking workers from DC 33 lolsob. Got this email yesterday from the Philadelphia Medical Reserve Corps. I think Mayor Parker should fill in. Maybe the dead will give her a Scrooge change of heart about a living wage.

This morning the NJ wildfire smoke is hitting Delaware and the NJ kennel where I'm taking my dog today bc I'm going to a climate adaptation conference (#MR2025 ) 🙃

Philly is getting wildfire smoke from both directions now. It is terrifying how quickly this problem is growing in a place where it basically didn't exist when I was growing up. This fire has been burning for less than a day and it's this bad.

I first noticed this in early Feb while trying to figure out if Philly PD was (illegally) involved in raids here. I looked at the photos and was like, are any of these people even feds? One guy's jeans are falling down, another using his chest plate to warm his hands

Looked up something on the Uniform Relocation Act and found:
- the HUD homepage now has this creepy quote over an AI-generated image of exurban sprawl houses
- that bullshit Abundance book blames Rachel Carson for the Uniform Relocation Act (and the URA, CWA, CAA, NEPA, etc were all Bad)

A firefighter commented on the r/Pennsylvania post about it that he'll be there to confront Fetterman about ignoring requests for help with equipment recalls that have left dozens of fire departments with safety equipment that can't be tested or repaired.

On 3/5, @fetterman.senate.gov tweeted that "Palestinians provide pensions for their homegrown cowards that murder innocent Jews. Compensating terrorists is popular for the locals like wings in Pittsburgh."

Life expectancy in Gaza decreased by 34.9 years in the first year of the war. What pensions?

This @fetterman.senate.gov post is so extreme that I thought the screenshot I saw might be fake. Nope! This Senator of a state w/ major research universities supports illegally snatching $400 million in *public research money,* blaming it on student activists, and saying it's good for the Jews.

Look at this map from Abington Township (via @whyy.org)! What's the point of including prevailing winds if your response radius doesn't incorporate them? My cousin lives just east of this and I was the first to tell her about the fire.

I got a Citizen app notification about this all the way in Philly and thought it was one of their jokes (like "fat man in sleigh spotted in the sky!" for us Jews) or a stunt.
