Actually, it was the Greeks who first used the term, Herodotus to be exact. Christian’s embraced it in the Mid Ages and it took flight from there. I agree, horrible word.

As an American in the UK I’m constantly surprised by the number of academics still interested in working in the US. But I wouldn’t be surprised by the high count wanting to leave.
