I'm excited to read it!

FWIW: I have library cards in three states and Indiana was the only one that had it in their Libby catalog.

I also like that it can read the article to me and sometimes it even bypasses paywalls!

AlphaFold predicts what a protein might look like on its own, but not how it will interact with other proteins in their native environments.

Methods like FPOP & CryoEM allow researchers to confirm AF's structural predictions and observe protein-protein interaction in vitro.

AplhaFold is an incredible feat for computational biology, but its value is often misunderstood. It vastly speeds up the candidate discovery process by predicting structures, but its error rate is still too high. Other methods are still needed to validate structural information on AF predictions.

The optimistic take is that it will only get better and it makes sense to start with simple use cases before trying full-on professional level output.

The poll results indicate a sampling bias. You have an audience of professionals that know how to get work done without copilot. Copilot tends to be more of a hindrance than a help for technical tasks when you already know exactly how you want it done.
Another poll should sample avg M365 users.
February 6, 2025 at 2:58 PM
Because copilot adoption is tied to earnings targets and individual OKRs.

I've had a dozen meetings with Microsoft reps pitching copilot use cases and most of them are solutions in search of a problem. Some are genuinely useful! They must be mandated to try it everywhere and see what sticks...

Not a KVM rec per se, but check if your primary monitor already has one built in! I run my USB hub and audio through my monitor and it automatically switches everything between devices when I change sources.

So, the Huawei / TikTok argument, but for AI:
"We can't allow a Chinese company to succeed because it can spy on users and run influence campaigns. Only US companies are allowed to do that!"

If only we had meaningful privacy laws that punish ANY companies that do this...

Does it prompt the user for those permissions? If so, many people will automatically press "Allow" without thinking.

Permission prompts have become the same as cookie banners and EULA/ToS. Most people don't know what they're for and press accept to make them go away.

I think the concerns come down to:
- Google tracks everything at the hardware level on Android
- fingerprinting enables user matching w/ 3rd party datasets
- people just press "allow all" out of habit and they may have you saved as a contact
- IRL beacons sniff and catalog your devices in public

Is this going to be posted on YouTube Music? Looking forward to it!

Tesla touting their ability to remotely unlock your car and share telemetry data with law enforcement seems like another reason to be hesitant.

Today I signed up to read an article on my PC, but the link went to an email I only have access to on my phone. I tried pressing "sign in" on the desktop site after confirming my email address on mobile, but it just kept sending more emails.

How do I read 404 on PC if I don't have email access?

Amazing as always!

btw, I spotted your rig at the end

It's because for the average person "they're listening to your phone calls" is more tangible than "they've got persistent admin access on your ISP's network."

Don't rush the final battle in ToTk! It's awesome, but you can't continue the side quests after. You have to go back to an earlier save, which felt unsatisfying
