Unbelievable how far we’ve regressed on this. In 2004 alone we got NFL Street, 2k5, and Street 2. All markedly better and more fun than this year’s CFB and Madden

He lived in the bunk next to mine. Being the ‘punter for West Virginia‘ made him cool to all of us. I did not last the full summer (lol) but I vaguely remember hearing he was fired as well for being lazy/something fairly innocuous. NGL was cool to see him on the Colts a few years later but then….

(speaks in New Jersey-ese) I grew up going to a lot of Springsteen & Wilco shows with my parents. They have one friend who would borderline berate people for talking when a song was over. It was a little much but also admirable

Also more generally appreciate your journalism and am a fan! McAfee was a counselor at my overnight camp in 5th grade so I’ve tracked his career with increasing dismay. Great to see someone call him on his BS and wish it happened more

I was at a last second Music Hall of Williamsburg show she played in 2021 where she brought out Tomberlin to do Casmir Pulaski Day together. Not a dry eye in the audience

So true! And like the league/its owners were plenty messy in their own right but the creativity created so much of what are now so obviously the best parts of basketball on the court

Oh man yes this will be full of them. It‘s definitely in that book too but Connie Hawkins’ life is definitely a pretty rich internet rabbit hole. He was one of the best 10-15 basketball players in the world in the late 60s but blackballed from the NBA and filed an antitrust suit against the league

I like Emma Goldman’s memoir a lot, in part because she seemed kinda messy on a personal relationship level and that’s interspersed with her like, arguing with Jack London about socialism. Do biographies count too? If so I have one that is probably my favorite!

it’s an offshoot of this but the ways that the lower skill cap opens up more styles and playbooks. Running the triple option in the AFC is obviously asinine but can win you the AAC! Also just love many of the jerseys and fields lol

Oh wow haha. I did not appreciate what talent there was at those NJ sports sections growing up (the high school sports coverage alone was incredible). Not sports but seeing this on the TL a few months made me surprisingly a bit emotional
