"That said, we've always had restrictions." No, we haven't. When the amendment was written, private citizens could literally purchase and use EVERY weapon in use by the military, from hatchets all the way up to ship canons.

Except how you interpret it is objectively wrong. You are using definitions for the words that wouldn't even be applied to them until 100+ years after the amendment was written. You are intentionally misinterpreting the amendment.

It says "right of the people" not "right of the militia". Every single one of the other amendments in the Bill of Rights are individual rights. Why would the 2nd amendment be an exception?
