This book rocked me. What lengths will people go to in order to save themselves? How do you morally accept drawing closer to the ones hurting your people? How many people working for the system hate the system?

The movie is one thing but the book "Twelve Years a Slave" by Solomon Northup *sounds* like him. It carries a different weight than the movie does.

My 10th grade teacher had us read “The Cage: A Holocaust Memoir” by Ruth Minsky Sender. We discussed the entire book at length in class. She did not let us look away.

I think we all need to find farmers markets & other small businesses to support. I fear the only way to make "them" notice us is if we keep our money between us, not corporations & sales taxes. Garage sales, community gardens, trading goods & services. It's time to build community & find who's safe.
