Pretty sure it is terracing, though I can't find much about that practice with web or Google scholar search. I have some other ag-related photos, like this field where the corn is notable for quite different heights.

In mid-November, I spent a couple days before a conference looking for Costa Rican #birds I hadn't seen before. My guide and I started in the highlands.
