Librarian. Opinions are my own, not my employer's. Housemate to Jack "Checkers" Linsky, chaos detector (and cat). Gamer, maker of charts, information seeker.
A friend of mine had a very unexpected pet loss, and for that and many other reasons, I have added "pay attention to my boy" to my daily checklist. Not that I wasn't doing it before, but I never ever want to doubt myself.

I put on the cat TV yesterday. it was greatly enjoyed.

Made a pet store reward profile years ago and of course I put Grimmy's name. He's been gone for 4 years and this morning I got an email that he's been playing hard and might need a new toy! And now I'm sobbing.

My little friend, I miss you! I hope you are playing as you wait for me!

I woke up this morning to darkness and silence.

The morning is cool, and that means that after a long summer of working continuously, the air conditioner is not currently running.

O happy darkness and silence! Fall is coming! The pecans will ripen soon!

Crafty brunch yesterday with a friend! Colored another tiny book cart (I may end up with a collection of these).

The viewing is superb! All the colors of nature are represented! ...no it's not leaf time yet. It's Bisexual Visibility Day and I wish you the happiest day!

(It is also the 30 year anniversary of the day I got married. Happy ain't-iversary to my ex, may we both prosper.)

Rare sighting of the sweet baby! (This is my partner's cat Mjolnir. Checkers, my black and white cat, is the spicy baby.)

Finishing up this month's take-home kit. It's library card sign-up month, so the kit is a tiny library in cardstock! Two bookshelves, a table with a lamp, a chair, and of course a book cart. I've also included extra bits to make more books and a sign or two.

Working at Litfest, a free library event with tons of great info for authors and would be authors. The in-library cafe has a special menu just for today.

I ordered the quick lunch before the fighting begins, and it was pretty good!

Ordering glue sticks (as you do as a librarian who makes take-home kits) and I am tickled that the quantity options for this brand are:
2 glue sticks
4 glue sticks
30 glue sticks
60 glue sticks
480 glue sticks

I wanted a few more than 60, but not like THAT. (Getting 2 boxes of 60.)

Y'all, Tiny Bookshop is a librarian's dream. Start the day with 40 books, recommend books (ACTUAL BOOKS) to folks based on what they say, and decorate your little trailer! Super cute cozy fuzzy vibes, real soft music that isn't intrusive. I played 4 hours yesterday and only stopped for bed.

Did your friend write a book? Do you know what you can do besides (or in addition to) buying a copy? ASK YOUR LIBRARY to get it! I've had "request Tim Lopez's Kickoff Kitchen" on my calendar since I heard it was coming out in August. (My library lets you request 30 days in advance.)

Someday I'm going to have a bicycle with a basket, for my lunch, and ride it to work. And it will have a little bell that goes ding ding ding.

There's a lot of things between me and that bicycle right now (more than I can explain), but it is still in front of me and not behind.

Ding ding ding.

Made a stamp today! It's based on a picture of Checky doing the big stretch.

so I feel like this is pretty good for a first time, but also it was a lot of fun. can't wait to do some cat ones.

Working on a new skill!

yesterday I watched the sunrise from eight stories up across the river, and this morning it's cloudy skies through a dirty window and I couldn't be happier because I am home.

Exactly 4 years ago today was his gotcha day! just look at him here, realizing that he gets to be his goofy little weirdo self for the rest of his life because I'm going to love him no matter what.

The only other place to find weather as perfect as today is deep in the memory vault, in grandma's yard, cicadas buzzing, riding the bicycle in circles with the handlebar tassels streaming.

Can't be there, so it's good to be here.

We got a rug! It is in heavy use!

Best part of being a librarian: getting to just absolutely rave about @mbrobergmoffitt.bsky.social 's amazing cookbook, Color Texture Taste, to someone who's going to LOVE it.

We lost our last feral cat to illness last week, and both my partner and I have been seeing, out of the corner of our eye, a cat in the garage, on the drive, in the yard. We've taken to announcing it to each other: "Driveway's haunted." "Sidewalk's haunted."

(there is no cat)

The Captain's ship has departed for the far shore, where he will be greeted by all his kitty friends.

We'll miss you, Captain Pai. Fair winds and following seas.
May 23, 2025 at 5:19 PM
Our Captain Pai is soon to sail into the west. He's tired and ill and all his kitty friends are gone.

When we humans are near the end, sometimes we are visited (and guided on) by our beloved dead. I hope the same is true for cats.
May 23, 2025 at 6:49 AM
And today we remember how we learned that those we love who have died are not simply in the past, they are waiting for us in the future.

Happy Easter. May love return to you, even if you don't recognize it at first.
