October Price Cap to Rise but January Brings Hope of a Cut in Bills

However, while the wholesale part of the bill is predicted to reduce, the January cap is expected to introduce new non-wholesale elements. Chief among these is the Regulated Asset Base (RAB) - to support investment in nuclear power stations - expected to add just under £10 a year to a typical bill.

What's impacting the cap?

📈 Expansion of the Warm Home Discount scheme - adding ~£15 to typical bills while supporting 2.7 million additional vulnerable households with £150 support.

📉 Volatile but generally declining wholesale prices.

📈 Adjustments to the modelling of certain inputs for the cap.

Another small decrease is forecast in January, but a volatile market and changes to the non-wholesale costs mean forecasts remain subject to change.

Standing Charge (£/day): Elec-0.51, Gas-0.30
Unit Costs (p/kWh): Elec-26.17, Gas-6.02
