Seeing how well throwing money at swing states did for us, I'm inclined to agree that big donor support is next to useless and we ought not to be bound to their goals.

Clearly, "it's the economy" and progressive policy aren't mutually exclusive. Our politics going forward must be uncompromisingly about how we can better peoples' lives, and we don't have to exclude our most vulnerable citizens to achieve this. Anything will be better than empty platitudes.
