Key messages:
• The 2 most common tests (serum retinol + RBP) cannot reliably identify at‐risk individuals with/without vitamin A deficiency in the community/clinics
• Using these tests could lead to over‐ or under-estimated levels of low vitamin A for populations and incorrect individual diagnosis
