As a liberal, trans, dem, I’m excited at the opportunity to liberate Iran from oppression. Iranians are overwhelmingly an amazing people, brave, and ready to join a free world. I can’t believe how weak Iran actually is. At the same time, Netanyahu is a lying POS. No US Troops on the ground.

They seem to have a misunderstanding of how taxes work. When they said they get money back, they didn’t connect it’s because they paid taxes already.
April 29, 2025 at 3:11 PM
Right, that’s what I’m saying. People with only $5M have no idea what they’re worth. People with 150M lose or gain 10% of their net worth a few times per month. And again, none of that money is actually in their bank accounts.
April 29, 2025 at 5:10 AM
So the government tells you what your net worth is, and then you owe based on the number they make up? Yeah, that seems fair.

Btw, anyone worth more than $5M has no idea exactly how much they’re worth. Which sounds crazy, but it’s true. And most of that is on paper, not money in the bank.

How does that work with my net worth fluctuating hourly? And who decides what my assets are worth?
April 29, 2025 at 4:46 AM
Not sure how that works. So every year I have to calculate my net worth, and pay 5% of that? Help me understand.
April 29, 2025 at 4:01 AM
This is true, and it’s a good point. I think though by making it no deductions, we offset that gap. I’m a high earner, and my effective tax rate is 28%. So it would definitely seem like a tax break for me. But I also know I deduct tens and sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars each year. 🤷‍♀️

I agree. And I also know that people are free to love where they want. And I also know that’s a bullshit response (mine) because I wouldn’t move to a red state if my life depended on it, and the costs of moving are exorbitant, and salaries tend to reflect those individual markets too. 🤷‍♀️

That’s what I said :) I’m talking about income tax.
April 28, 2025 at 6:52 PM
Sure, why not? Your typical uber driver makes less than $60k / year so no income tax. Your typical billionaire earns about 200 million a year so they pay 30 million a year in income tax. Seems fair?
April 28, 2025 at 6:51 PM
That’s a fair question to ask. I’d argue though that no income tax on earnings under $60K is a benefit.

What system would you prefer to capitalism? I’m curious to learn more.
April 28, 2025 at 4:47 PM
I think so. Help me understand why you think this is a bad idea. Would love to know more.
April 28, 2025 at 4:25 PM
I like it.

I realized how negative my post is and I’m going to get rid of it. But I wanted to say great point to you before I did :)
