Oooooh, idk, how do you separate thinking/ writing from politics? Some are more obvious than others so they win an Orwell Prize but like all the authors I work with write from a clear political standpoint. And I don’t think that only happens in nonfiction.

PS: it’s interesting to see the IS vs UK reception. The US engaged so fully with the politics which I was surprised by whereas the UK was mostly mocking of it (in reviews!). I kind of wonder if the US are only now waking up to truly left wings politics? Or maybe I’m just making things up

Interesting take. I would argue that all writing is political. Not as overtly as this one of course but she is an activist first and foremost so she couldn’t have written it differently. I’ll submit it as a quote haha.

That’s so interesting. Do you mean the book comes across as a conspiracy theory or her thesis? I think people accused her of that in The Shock Doctrine but her point is that as investigative journalists you need to believe that even the most outrageous claims need investigations
