Nuremberg(2025):

It was pretty good, a little too tonally lighthearted given the subject matter but it has gravity when the moment calls for it. Definitely no "Judgement at Nuremberg" but Russell Crowe gives an especially good performance.

Hachiko:

I knew this movie was going to make me cry but the ending had me sobbing. The performances were ok but just conceptually this story makes me burst into tears. I love dogs!!!!

Alien Earth:

Really good so far! I'm excited to see where it goes if it gets a season 2!

The Thing: (rewatch)

still one of the best horror movies of all time and possibly the best performance by a dog in a movie.

A girl walks home alone at night:

they made this movie just for me actually. Iranian Movie about skateboarding feminist vampire and a guy who dresses exactly like 1980 Bruce springsteen. The predecessor to HVSCSP which is also Kara-core.

Cloverfield:

I know I'm late to the party and other people probably have made these exact complaints before but they show the monster too much, I enjoyed it and I like found footage movies but the movie should have ended before the Central park scene. It's probably the most late 00s movie ever tho

The Naked Gun (2025):

Honestly pretty funny for what I was worried was going to be a bad remake. Neeson is no Leslie Nielson but he's close! The plot isn't interesting but it's really just the vehicle to cram in a ton of visual gags every 20 seconds.

Taste of Cherry: been getting into Abbas Koarostami lately and I'm not disappointed. Really powerful film while also being very reserved and contemplative. Reminded me a lot of "I'm thinking of Ending Things" which I also really enjoyed.

Chainsaw Man The Movie:

Pretty straightforward and great adaption of the manga! Some really jaw dropping animation in the fight scenes, I'm still thinking about the part where they're in the office building.

O Brother where art thou?:

Not my favourite Coen brothers' film but I really like the Odyssey and this is a really cool retelling of it!

planes, trains, and automobiles:

God Steve Martin is so fucking funny and the way he treats John Candy's character makes you want to punch him in the face just like that parking attendant did. Comedies used to be so tightly scripted!

interview with the vampire s1-2:

Not quite a faithful adaption but the changes it makes are for the better imo. Louis is a much more interesting character in this telling and I like how the modern day plot is weaved in! Im looking forward to season 3!!

Certified Copy:

High concept and a lot to chew on! Definitely need a second viewing to really sink my teeth into it, disorienting in a good way!

Sorry Baby:

a real tonal rollercoaster that expertly manages to walk the line between a drama tackling serious subjects and a lighthearted comedy. One of the most harrowing driving scenes I've seen in a movie. I liked it a lot!

Annihilation: (rewatch)

I think I got a lot more out of it on a second viewing and I'm really glad I revisited it. the lighthouse scene is so haunting and the score adds so much to this movie.

Pokémon movie 3:

probably the least creative title of all of the movies but some really cool sequences in the tower, it's not quite as good as I remember but that was also like 21 years ago

only ever read the first book and didn't expect these to be as good as people said but god damn are these some good fucking movies.

Hedda:

it was fine, I like movies based on plays because it's fun to see how they adapt them. Some good performances and an enjoyable plot I just didn't feel that wowed by it

nirvanna the band the show the movie:

Saw this in a packed theatre at TIFF so I might be biased but one of the best movies I've seen this year. Insanely funny and one of the most creatively shot and written movies I've seen. And a love letter to Toronto to boot!
