If you are on a highway with posted limit of 65 (prevailing speed 70+) and you don’t feel safe doing 45, you need to find another route or get some sort of flagger truck out behind you. It shouldn’t be automatic, to allow for conditions, but this could negate some of the speeding to pass scenarios.

Oh, I see. Yeah, unfortunately I think that making this happen would take a complete rethink of how we enforce traffic laws, including minimum speeds on highways and impeding traffic.

So basically, we design highways like drag strips, then ask a few thousand drivers how fast they would like to go, and the answer is “really fast”. Then when there are accidents, we add more safety measures assuming they will continue to go fast, making it more like a drag strip.

The current speed limits, at least in VA, start at 55/65/75 for highways, and are set based off of the speed of the “85th percentile driver, rounded to the nearest 5mph”. This has a lot of interesting consequences because it’s not an actual safety study, but just measuring drivers actual speeds.

Can’t wait to see none of the things you “negotiated” for happen. Have fun in the primaries, this VA voter will be finding someone else.
