So, do we still think Steven Pinker is correct that we are less violent? I've always found his argument unpersuasive. Conceding we dont fight fist and sword anymore, he overlooks the cold hearted efficiency of violence we use now - drone strikes, bombing campaigns - and doesnt explain Gaza cases.

They’re planning on building a detention center for migrants in the middle of the fetid swamps of Florida.

If you think this is something new, the first internment camp they sent me and my family to in 1942 was a barbed wire prison called Rohwer. It was located in the swamps of Arkansas.

Legal fact: the US passed a law in the 1870s making it illegal for the military to execute laws or act as a law enforcement body with the power to arrest unless amended by the Constitution (which has not occured) or by an act of Congress (also has not occured).
The first ever known arrest of a domestic citizen made by an active duty member of the military on U.S. soil occurred today. Put another way, the federal government used the U.S. military to arrest a U.S. citizen.

This is a very good episode that discusses the libertarian approach to governing. Jon does provide opposing arguments to some of the points advanced by Nick Gillespie in a way that provides clarity to misunderstandings around libertarian views.
