Fed and State oversight organizations work (or at least worked) hand in hand for decades. The IG of HHS specifically set aside funding and manpower to help each state. Cuts to one always affect the other. This, likely, would not happen in a vacuum.

The total number is likely 500-600M, not 1 billion, and similar amounts have been stolen from other states over the last 6 years. Fraud against govt programs has gone up massively in general thanks to the aforementioned cuts and slashes.

Most of it comes from 250 M from Feeding our Future, which could only happen because the Fed gutted the watchdogs and oversight organizations who could actually stop it back during Trumps first term.

Seeing people just relish in their baser instincts not because they think it’ll make the world better but rather purely to hurt others, and taking intense joy in causing and seeing that hurt is just utterly depressing to bear witness to.
