The city is the environment of the story, of the phenomena the author observes as the author lives in SF (it's not an example, though it could have been written in many, many other cities). That's nothing to weaken the story.

Opposition is another story.

I don't read it as a "The young people are bad" story. As I see things, it also is not one. The kids are alright. And it's not a matter of generations. Also, internet usage of older generations is more influential.
