I liked this book too, but haven't read it since it came out. May be time for a reread.

Or a weird guy who shows up at the door,
Or a flickering light over a slot machine.
The owl was a good one.
I pray you are well.
But if you are actually gone,
Cheer up, because here you are not gone.
69 degrees and sunny today.
Regards,
Corbin

Not what they seem, right?
Seemed like an owl, but I did wonder.
Tell me about your life in wherever,
The new mysteries you’ve found,
The next level.
I don’t care how! Do it through a picture of a house,
Or the way my dogs smile,
Or a kink in the garden hose,

This, I think, is where the history of earth might really kick off! We will get out of the way, and really, given our history, we deserve it. We'll become the Ancestors, and our actions will be debated.
Have a nice evening! And I mean that.

"Heaven is high, and the emperor is far away." -- a saying found in both Russia and China.
Maybe not for much longer.
We're creating the next emperor, but when the dust clears it won't be fully human.

7. Make the best AI, asap, and tell it to beat the other guy -- never mind the complaining citizens. Easy to deal with.
8. $$$ Profit?

Not a democracy. Developing AI at a suddenly surprising rate.
6. Once set, replay modern history., But instead of UK/France/Russia/US against Germany/Japan/Italy -- make it US/Russia vs. China, and see where Europe and Japan go. That's also why so fast. It's really happening, I think.

5. Now reshape the whole chessboard. US and Russia now. Cast Europe aside. Europe is feckless and weak. True, Russia is weak (see: Ukraine) -- but not feckless. Putin ran the KGB. Their biggest concern must be China, a nuclear power on the border, economic juggernaut, rich, powerful.

4. Demolish the government, doesn't matter how clumsily or fraudulently. Do it fast, pay consequences later. Took Hitler 53 days or so. Someone paid attention.

* Keep the elections. Russia has elections. Even Iran has elections. There will be mid-term US elections and another presidential election. It will happen and they'll take care of it.

Things fell apart, Pooty Poot rose in 1999, succeeding the dear old drunky, and quickly grasped the true idea of power and quickly sold off the entire government to rich buddies. Then the actual State became a bunch of companies run by billionaire oligarchs who were terrified of their leader.

2. They realize it's not 1776 -- though it helps to wink at the idea that it is! Or 1933, though they cheerfully wink. No, it's 1990-something. After the Soviet empire fell in 1990, Yeltsin had trouble. He dissolved the Russian Parliament and boosted presidential powers.

Gerrymandering, last-minute court decisions. They smelled it coming. The left was like: Wait, what? Scratching heads. You must be nuts. But they had no compelling competing goal, or mythology anymore. And the right was like, okay cool, let's play ball.

Became clear "democracy" as an idea and a passion -- no matter how successful it was, no matter how near and dear it is to your heart -- was on the ropes, tired, drained of spunk, ill-suited to the present moment or the challenges ahead, and at least partially fake anyways.
