I'm seeing an absolute flood of "call/email your rep/senator to tell them XYZ". Much more in just the past few days. It's exhausting. Representative government isn't working if I need to be this involved.

What keeps me up is how screwed America is even post Trump. The foundation we thought was so sturdy turned out to be built on sand. Unless we can enact significant changes to remove money from politics, and add teeth to our guardrails, then we're always still just one step away from disaster.

So frustrating to learn that, for so many things, the reason we can't have nice things is because of racism, because some white people didn't want black people to have those things, too. pca.st/2ctq8zyb
What ‘Drained-Pool’ Politics Costs America - The Ezra Klein Show
“The American landscape was once graced with resplendent public swimming pools, some big enough to hold thousands of swimmers at a time,” writes Heather McGhee in her new book, “The Sum of Us: What Ra...

For most Americans, it is the threat of punishment, or their own moral compass, that keeps them from doing wrong. For billionaires who would do wrong, our legal system has failed and no longer offers a meaningful threat of punishment. Perhaps the threat of a proletariat uprising would fill that gap.

With the current state of the Republican party, I'd describe my views as anti-Republican. Sadly, the Democratic party as a whole doesn't represent what I'm looking for, they're just the only other game in town. Could really use some ranked choice voting up in here.

In my life, I've never seen America collectively closer to realizing that our real problem is class warfare, covered in layers of distraction. We don't have to accept millions upon millions living hard lives so that some thousands can live like kings.

Policing in America is fundamentally broken. As a result, all cops are bastards.

With the not-at-all-tragic news of the death of the UHC CEO, I'm reminded of this great quote:

"People shouldn't be afraid of their government. Governments should be afraid of their people."

Small government is not possible in a world of big corporations. If the government is outgrown by the corporations (or even people!) it tries to govern and regulate, it eventually loses its ability to do those things.

Cash bail is fundamentally flawed. It clearly works to create a two-tiered system wherein people without means are more harshly punished and people with means can reduce their punishment.

Somehow, bafflingly, America elected 45 again, despite the unrivaled dumpster fire that was his first term, and a list of other reasons too long to mention. I'm convinced that he will go down in history as the most successful con artist the world has ever seen.

The purpose of government should be to help improve everyone's lives.
