Tariffs Push Claas to Shift Combine Production Overseas
King Don wages his trade war on the pretext that tariffs will boost American manufacturing. But as usual, the Wharton wimp gets economics wrong. Tariffs have pushed American combiner Claas to shift production away from Omaha to Germany: Anticipating the tariffs that would come, Claas last spring tried to get in front of the situation in North America by pushing its Omaha plant to produce extra of the Lexion combines, even pushing its Nebraska workforce into overtime to do it.

Lake Preston Farmer Still Duped by Cheating Trump; China Buys More Soybeans
No matter how bad he is for the ag industry, King Don still manages to delude some farmers: Lake Preston farmer Paul Casper said the price increase has pushed him “closer to break-even on beans,” while Trump’s tariffs have raised the price of farm inputs such as fertilizers. Casper said Brazil has emerged as a rival to U.S. soybean farmers after years of infrastructure investment backed by China, which makes the future feel less certain.

Filing Fees Forget “We the People”—Petitions Remind Candidates of Democratic Obligation
On Sunday I discussed the inconsistency of Secretary of State Monae Johnson's proposal to allow candidates to skip petitions and pay filing fees to get on the ballot while denying ballot question committees the same favor for their initiatives and referenda. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. But are filing fees good for anybody, and for democracy?

Denmark is a Social Democracy or Welfare State.

It ranks very high on the scale of free market capitalism. In fact, the Heritage Foundation claims it ranks 7th out of 184 countries.

Yet it's a social democracy.

Their govt put power into Unions to regulate capitalism so that it wouldn't have to.

Mercer finds that the state won only 18 of those 37 cases and spent nearly $110K on private lawyers to win back $146K, a net savings for the state of $36K, or 8% of the $440K at stake in these cases.
