You can roll your eyes all you want, but the reality is that if the government was fascist they wouldn't even have bothered to show up to court.

Charlotte is where they were sent. That isn't the same as skipping town.

Let's see they get hauled into court, then they have to testify truthfully and the know it, and they have to follow court orders.

Wearing masks doesn't prevent them from being identified for legal purposes by a court.

Trump is truly aggrieved with the world, and his base connects with him on that level because they are truly aggrieved with the world. This is genuine feeling, but Trump's aggrievement comes from not being born the richest person in the world with all of humanity bowing down to his greatness.

What they did is something the Founders feared, and I hope Comey sues them for violating his constitutional rights.

Wrong. Many are behaving like thugs, but if you don't think that they aren't abiding by any democratic constraints I can tell you that they wouldn't be worried about their actions when they are in front of a judge. In a fascist government the thugs never worry about being held to account by it.

Think of it like this. The government itself isn't fascist, yet. That being said Trump is a fascist as are many of his supporters, and that is the battlefield we are on. That means we can still win using the tools of democracy.

But the beauty is that it is all on Trump now, and it will keep blowing up on him.

We saw that with law firms, with media firms, and with some universities when they did compliance without fight.

So we need to recognize we actually aren't at the White Rose stage yet, we need not comply, and in the spirit of John Paul Jones I have not yet begun to fight.

But once people think they are at the White Rose stage of fascism, even though we aren't even close to it as of right now, it becomes much harder to galvanize people to fight because they already think that they have lost. At that point they start weathering it out.

I think what people are missing is that Tom's point comes very much down to understanding the battlefield that they are currently on. So many want to jump to the White Rose stage, and doing so can result in millions just going it's over, and give up when victory is still in doubt for Trump.
November 19, 2025 at 5:26 AM
No doubt we have a movement afoot, and it's important to acknowledge that while recognizing that we can still win with the tools we have. Acting like we are at the White Rose stage means Trump has won as people will surrender in advance.
November 19, 2025 at 5:15 AM
The key point Tom is making, and it is important, is that we still do have and can use the tools of Democracy to stop it. Once those are gone then you have a fascist government.

Season 1 of the series Rise of the Nazis by the BBC in 2019 does a very good at covering this.
November 19, 2025 at 5:01 AM
But the branches themselves are still not fully fascist, and the GOP is still not fully fascist. If it was the vote you saw today would never have taken place, and even if it did it would have been voted down with not one democratic yay vote in the house as they wouldn't have been allowed in.
November 19, 2025 at 4:27 AM
The difficulty with a lot of what you mentioned is that they will have to be dealt with via Constitutional amendments. I'm not saying they aren't good ideas as I think they are, but that we still have to remember that this is going to be a long fight to fix this mess.
November 19, 2025 at 3:54 AM
There is a lot that needs to be done, but the first step is to reestablish the rule of law by holding people to account for their crimes.

What you want is to use kids to advance your personal political agenda, but don't want those same kids to face any backlash, negativity, etc. for doing so. That's extremely wrong, and it is just as bad as when I see parents using their kids to advance their own personal political views.

She made the choice to become a public figure. She said, "how dare you," and it became a meme.

The thing is that you have no problem with her scolding people, scolding leaders, being given awards, etc., but anything that you perceive as negative you are a no on. That isn't how it works.

The thing is with Watergate as bad as it was at no point was it trying to cover up whether or not Nixon raped kids.

I don't eat squirrel, but I have killed more than my fair share of ground squirrels using a Winchester 9422.

She also wasn't groomed and she wasn't raped. Epstein's victims were, and they didn't ask to be groomed and/or to be raped. Greta made the choice to become a public figure, and at no point did she say I'm too young to speak to heads of state at the UN, to be Time's Person of the Year, etc.
November 18, 2025 at 11:18 AM
She made that choice. I didn't make it for her, her parents to the best that I know didn't make it for her, you didn't make it for her, etc. What you want is for her to be able to speak out, but be given special treatment. That's isn't how this works.
