Been playing around a lot with godot VFX myself as well (mostly particle system now). Shaders are on the horizon.

I have really enjoyed working with Godot in general. The node system and gdscript make a lot of sense to me. The engine and editor are pretty lightweight and don’t take an eternity to start. And all of the 3D stuff is more than capable for the 3D work I am doing.
