The Labour Party is in such a terrible mess. They have a huge majority yet they are paralysed and feeble. It’s weird and embarrassing.

Good news. Hopefully courts all across the world will agree. If American courts don’t, their whole creative industry is knackered.

Would be useful if someone would ask Nicky Campbell (Radio 5) to have a read of this before downplaying any
concern about Mr Gibb of the BBC Board: goodallandgoodluck.substack.com/p/the-truth-...

The truth about impartiality at the BBC
And the hysteria of the current "crisis"

Agreed - in terms of younger left leaning supporters who have in the last 10 years fallen away from the BBC. In terms of older audiences - ironically they are more negative about the BBC than ever before, but still use BBC services as much as they ever have done.

Exactly - the BBC has to end all promotion or discussion (obsession) about front page headlines. They don’t discuss websites in the same way - yet the vast majority of people get their news online. The obsession of the print media is a relic of the last century. They need to stop this idiocy.

Also, doesn’t edited together spoken footage (clumsily or purposefully) happen all the time with all sorts of people in all sorts of media organisations - why should Trump be a special case? No one cared a year ago.

Why is Trump a special case? Surely this kind of edited together of footage has happened thousands of times in news output across all new media organisations? Isn’t this where OFCOM and Govt need to have a view on what constitutes “doctored footage”? Does it only happen to Trump?

Might be time that the media and political talking heads start completely ignoring this man and focus on the economy and life for ordinary people. His behaviour isn’t worth covering anymore - play the ball not the player

If one lesson is learnt by the BBC after this saga is over and Mr Gibb is shat out of their building, is that the BBC needs to stop promoting the printed press - the Telegraph is a shit rag. Stop showing us its front page!

Indeed. A large subset of Baby Boomers have been fully radicalised after years of voting Tory since the 1980s. They are now smelling blood. It’s quite astonishing - given they will desperately need immigrants in the health sector - many of them will be riddled with disease in the coming decade

Gibb needs to be removed with the utmost urgency. He is a danger to the BBC.

He should have been removed years ago. He is a clear danger to our national broadcaster - how the hell is he still on the BBC Board?

These dumb bastards are loons if they think word predictors will help them manage a prison population. Totally unhinged people who have ended up running our country.

Equally many on the right like LVT because it could be used as a tool to lower tax on capital and/or labour. But I’d like to see it used to reduce asset prices v wages. Basically the UK won’t get itself out of very low growth unless it adopts LVT and reduces the margin between house prices and wages

To be fair he’s attempted to promote Land Value Tax as an alternative. Which in theory could temper inequality - often in the form on land wealth. But he and others are not very good at explaining it in that way, in order for the Left to adopt it as part of the fight against wealth inequality

You’re right but that doesn’t address the issue of growing inequality - hence the Left clumsily use tax policy like this to address inequality. Maybe a key way to tackle inequality - Land Value Tax - needs a better pitch from the likes of you & other tax policy experts for the Left to get behind it?

Brilliant post John - and extremely important. Hopefully this is shared with Starmer’s team and everyone that works in the Department for Culture, Media and Sport - from Lisa Nandy down.

Agreed. The board has to be dismantled immediately. This has all the hallmarks of sabotage and needs to be dealt with urgently. Starmer needs to act.

So who leaked it? Was it a board member? - that would be an act of sabotage - what is Shah going to do about it?
