Thank you for that piece. I fell in love with Kolchak as a kid watching it on late night San Diego tv late 70s/early 80s(?) and couldn’t get enough of it. Going to have to check the library for the novels.

Have you read Symbiote by Michael Nayak? It’s a bit like The Thing meets The Pineapple Express.

It’s become one of my comfort movies. When a migraine hits me I’ll turn this gem on, place a pillow over my face and let the dialogue soothe the demons in my brain.

I was working at Mann Cinema 21 in San Diego when this came out & for some reason Warren Beatty came to opening night. I walked into my boss’s office & BOOM Warren Beatty is just hanging out. Being a movie freak & stumbling upon a big star is weird, man.

Also I’m pretty sure this is the only movie where Dennis Dugan is the heroic figure
