Major donors are raising the bar for climate philanthropy. So are households. That momentum is desperately needed in Canada, where climate philanthropy is comparatively low and climate charities are hungry to get the work done.

To solve climate change, we need more philanthropy
One cause is especially underrepresented in our charitable giving: climate change.

To paraphrase: the effortless repeal of Biden's Inflation Reduction Act is a reminder that economic self-interest isn't as powerful as narrative. And it's time for climate advocates to write a stronger narrative.

Canada needs 5.8M new homes that are affordable, low-carbon and resilient. How are our governments doing at making it happen? Today's "Report Card for More & Better Housing" gives the feds a B and the provinces virtually failing grades. Time to pick up the slack.

An American friend just sent me pics of his parents' house in Connecticut: fully decked out with Canadian flag and sporting ball caps saying "Elbows Up for Canada". These people aren't even *half* Canadian! Hard to see through the fog, but could it be we come out of all this even closer neighbours?

Amid all the Oil & Gas industry's giddy talk about east-west pipelines, Canada's true superpower when it comes to energy is clean electricity. I'm with @blakeshaffer.bsky.social & Philippe - east-west transmission is the nation-building project we need.

Opinion: Canada needs a nation-building project. It should start with interprovincial power transmission
The future is electric – and Canada should leverage its provinces’ complementary strengths and needs to build an east-to-west network and reach our full energy potential

Such an important report. It gives us the first-ever cost analysis of sprawling our communities into flood and wildfire zones, which is exactly what provinces currently incentivize them to do. We need to build new housing and we need to build it smart.
Canada could face up to $3 billion in new losses each year from flood and wildfire damages to new homes unless policy changes redirect new housing out of harm’s way. Wildfire damages could more than double by 2030.
