Soft is too vague but the peanut should still have a little bit of chew to it. But the shell is v soft. Some people put boiled peanuts in Coca-Cola and eat them as they drink.

It’s a southern tradition. You boil raw peanuts in the shell with salt and a seasoning that speaks to you for a few hours until the shell is soft, and then you eat the whole thing. Deeply satisfying comfort food.
