The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths received royal charter in 1327.

The Goldsmiths’ Hall in Foster Lane, London has occupied the same site since 1339. The “New Hall” (built 1634-6) was gutted by the Great Fire of London in 1666, but only demolished in 1829. The 3rd (current) Hall opened in 1835.

There is no definitive evidence for when“The Royal Mint” was created but the Monogram Penny - the silver penny of Alfred the Great (871 - 899) - is one of the first coins to state explicitly that it was minted in London.

Humans have traded in precious metals - both in the form of jewellery and coinage - for millennia. There is some debate over the origins of coinage, but they were introduced as a method of payment around the 6th Century BCE - the earliest examples are from Greece, Persia and Egypt.
