CRI has released CY 2024 beverage container redemption rates for states w/deposit return systems (#DRS, aka #bottlebill). CT, after major program upgrades, saw its rate jump 21% in 1 yr. Only 1 other deposit state had an increase- NY, up 1%.

Curbside recycling alone isn't enough to ensure high rates of aluminum used beverage can recycling at the levels deposit return systems (#DRS, aka #bottlebills) do. Only 10 U.S. states have a DRS program. Learn more in our new report on aluminum beverage can recycling: tinyurl.com/577z8t2p

It's #GlobalRecyclingDay2025! Adoption/implementation of beverage container deposit return systems (#DRS, aka #bottlebills)- the most impactful strategy to increase bottle & can recycling rates- continues to grow worldwide. However, the U.S. lags behind Europe, Australia & Canada in this area.
