Audible recommended this book to me and I assumed it was a parody of current events. Then I realized it was published in 2019. @scalzi.com #books #booksky

Here she is, my @daedalusspinners.bsky.social Starling! It took me a bit to figure out some things like how to thread the leader properly, how to fix alignment issues, and how to get the tension band working, but now, smooth and quiet as butter. It’s love! #handspinning (fiber: shaniko from YarnJam)

My Mastodon poll ended with Bacon Burner in the lead which is perfectly aligned with what I decided while the poll was running. Probably will spin it end to end and chain ply to make a gradient. #handspinning #fiber

Super excited about my Ghibli-themed batts from @fossilfibers.bsky.social. Which one should I start with? Bacon Burner (Calcifer - purplish/orangish), Ponyo’s Jellyfish Ride, (blues/turquoise/pink) or Paper Airplane Skies (the Wind Rises - sky colors blues through orange to pink)? #handspinning

I stopped by the Woodland Handcrafts site just out of curiousity. I’ve only placed preorders and never successfully ordered but I hit the jackpot and soon will be the owner of this gorgeous morel mushroom support spindle. OMG. #handspinning #supportedspindle

Goal: 5 minutes a day of some kind of #fiberarts - right now the easiest is this project on my Schacht Ladybug - the roving is already attached, and all I have to do is sit down and get started right away. Even if I really only have 5 minutes it’s easy and approachable. #handspinning #handspun

Starting spinning my Flannel Weather rolags from Hikari Handmade. The singles look significantly different than I expected but I’m still very excited. More than 400g of fiber total so it’ll be a long project. Stay tuned. #handspun #handspinning #supportedspindle

Plying this set of Hikari Handmade rolags is complete. Less twist than I intended, but I’m sure it will still be fun to knit. Looking forward to getting it off the bobbin, measured, soaked, and set, figuring out the weight / WPI so I can decide what to do with it. #knitting #handspun #handspinning

Got all of the singles off one of the spindles and still have some left on the other which I will use a plying bracelet to finish up. Excited to get this yarn off the bobbin and see how skein looks. The grey with some pops of color here and there, so interesting #spinning #handspun #handspinning

Bad experience plying today. Nothing seemed to go right. Not enough take up; too much take up, not enough twist in the yarn; too much tension, slowed down the flyer, spinner made funny sounds. At least I feel confident the yarn will still be usable no matter what. #handspinning #handspun

My Everybody’s Tarot mini deck (by @sarakathleenuk.bsky.social ) is just as wonderful as I had hoped. And my custom “Connection” card, featuring two creatures knitting socks from the same ball of yarn, is amazing and so on point. Can’t wait to start using it for readings. #tarot #knitting

I am halfway through these Hikari rolags. I wasn’t sure how they would spin up because I don’t have enough experience to form a real expectation. At first they seemed way more gray than i expected but now I can see the color. Super curious how it will look once plied. #handspinning #handspun

I ordered this spinning bowl and now I am obsessively checking the extremely inaccurate USPS tracking website to see when it will arrive. #supportedspindle #handspinning #spinning

I’m fascinated by the difference been how fiber looks in a rolag or roving, how it spins up, how it looks after plying, and then how it looks knit up. I am pleasantly surprised by how well the original tones of pink and yellow to show up so well in the knitted item #handspun #handspinning

Anyone else making a Beekeeper’s Quilt? This is my longest-term knitting project. I am making hexiflats (unstuffed hexagons) and l need ~450-550 to make a quilt of adequate size. As of today I have 52 including these - the first two I have made out of my own handspun #knitting #handspun

Day 12 #supportedSpindle #handspinning - my first real skein of supported spindle yarn is ready! It turned out much better than I thought since the plying evened it out a lot. Rustic but people keep telling me that is the beauty of handspun. Looking forward to making something (small, yds are low)

#supportedspindle #handspinning day 11: finished spinning the rolag, plied with my EEW 6.1 (had extra on one spindle so used plying bracelet to finish), wound onto niddy noddy, and then skeined and weighed. Approx 54 yds and 14 g. Then soaked and snapped, now waiting for the finished yarn to dry.

#supportedspindle #handspinning day 9: my second straddle creek spindle arrived and I started spinning on it right away. I really feel like I’m getting the hang of it now and I like the new spindle shape as well. I’m working through the second rolag on this spindle and then I’ll ply them together.

#supportedspindle #handspinning day 7: happy today after getting some time to spin and having some breakthroughs - more consistent flicking/spinning and successfully flicking and then drafting while the spindle kept spinning! Can’t do it consistently yet but can see the light!!!

#supportedSpindle #handspinning Day 5 - the spinning of the spindle itself is definitely going more smoothly. That said, the singles is still looking really ratty. Need more time to spin. And I expect this and the next couple spindlefulls to continue looking ratty.

Day 4 #supportedspindle #handspinning - Using a rolag from Hikari Handmade makes it obvious how important good fiber prep is (so good!). Park and draft is working ok; I would do even more to loosen these rolags in future. Beyond that I am finding winding on well to be the most confusing part.

day 3: I wound singles onto a niddy noddy and pulled the rest off the shaft since I’m not actually going to use it. I spun on my wheel on my primary WIP. And I found extra rolags I got from Hikari Handmade and will start these with the supported spindle. #handspun #handspinning #supportedspindle

Supported spindle spinning Day 2 (yesterday): experimenting with my Kravelli and starting to get the hang of it but definitely not there yet. Envious of people’s photos of their perfect spindles with fine beautiful singles ;) but know I’m working up to it. #handspun #handspinning #supportedspindle
