Some redwood regrowth post the CZU fire. Always look so funny to me.

I will hit up arrow in a terminal like 20 times rather than type in a 5 letter command.

"The only efficient use of generative "AI" I see is helping to meet basic and excessive administrative burdens (e.g. filing unimportant progress reports). Maybe we should just reduce those rather than invest in a technology that can write a C+ essay."

Doing multiple surveys each year lets us see how #Sturgeon habitat use changes during the season. Check out this location in June vs July. Each small dark hump is a sonar shadow created by a sturgeon. 🧪🌎

Next time a student asks, "Why do we need to learn statistics?" Just put this up and sit down silently.

Visiting my parents after #ESA2025 and my dad said he put my poster the "the other one." My parents still have my [bad] poster from #ESA2013!!!
August 17, 2025 at 8:13 PM
Cool, I'll check it out. These are more of a field guide (like species id) with a much larger ecology and history section in the front then other guides. Also, it is really beautifully illustrated.

Late breaking posters session at #ESA2025 was really uplifting! Science in the USA is in a dark place, but there are so many young, briliant researchers with great ideas, and people and organizations moving science forward. They'll set us back, they'll hurt many scientists, but they won't stop us.

As a 🇨🇦 I feel like I should be offended by this.

Can we stop with the private citizens should kill invasive species. I've heard it multiple times at #ESA2025. It usually doesn't work and gives people a false view of the issue. This goes for the eating thing too. Look at striped bass in CA to see how that worked.

Big believer that posters are better than talks at conferences. After presentating my first #BetterPoster at #ESA2025, that has only been reinforced.

Schedule all set for #ESA2025!

The easter egg in my #ESA2025 poster is little fish angels on my fish tombstone.

If you haven't seen the #betterposter videos, you should check them out.

There are many optimization plots in ecology, but cost or transport is my favorite. I just like the shape. #fish

The Ace Hardware in Red Bluff, CA still has free 🍿. I may need to do boat repairs more often.

This is Red Bluff Diversion Dam. The gates are permanently up to help fish, including sturgeon. Seeing this reminds me that change is possible.

All in all, I always think I have a pretty great job this time of year.
